What's New at WaterFront Street

Well it has been a while since I have posted and a lot has changed. One of the things is that we changed the name of our FaceBook page to WaterFront Street Art Gallery which creates an all encompassing name for what we are trying to create.  Much of the Gallery will still be about jewelry but there will eventually be a smattering of sculptures and photography. You may even see some wall art in the form of drawings and paintings.  When we started the goal was to create jewelry that focused on the healing benefits of aromatheropy. My husband, who is a Chainmaille artisan, then added his beautiful work. Then I discovered the fun of wire weaving and stones. Copper Jewelry - To Patina Or Not To Patina  by niceladyjewelry What The Heck Is A Patina? Patina is one of those words artsy types throw around. I create artsy jewelry, I'm an artsy type; and I do say things like, "This Copper Pendant will develop a lovely Patina in time." But I'm also down to earth, so when I use the word, Patina, I go a bit further and try to explain myself.   A Patina is the shift in color of a metal's surface. It can develop naturally as a result of ongoing oxidation from exposure to moisture in the air; or the color change can be induced with chemicals that speed the process. The simplest way to demonstrate is to examine a handful of Copper pennies. You will notice the newer pennies are bright and shiny, while the older ones are darker. That's Patina at work. Wow! What a Ride! We just got back from our trip to Detroit to see our new grandson Dean and Irma came to visit. In anticipation of evacuation, we spent days deciding what to pack for transport and where we could put items that were staying behind. We worked right up to the time we were told we had to leave and then moved to a secure cinder block home with hurricane shutters. That alone was an experience with 2 cats, 2 dogs, 4 kids and 4 adults trying to stay out of each other’s way. We lost power at 9 pm Sunday so it was time for bed. The storm raged on outside as the heat rose inside. Luckily ( and I don’t say that lightly ) the storm was just about over by morning and we could start the clean-up. The home we were staying in got power back only to lose water for a day. Still, everyone was safe and sound. I thank God that our home was not touched by the storm except for a flooded yard that went down enough to return home the next day. Electricity was restored ...
